The President of the Republic’s visit to Peking has a three-fold objective. In addition to the sports aspect, with the official opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, the chief of state’s stay in Peking offers an opportunity to Chinese investors, the candidates, to propose their approach and indicate the sectors they are interested in. More straightforward for their economic partners, this is an occasion to inform the President of the Gabonese Republic, Omar Bongo Ondimba, of the state of progress of the files they are jointly working on with Eyéghé Ndong’s government.

This visit by Chief of State Omar Bongo Ondimba is also awaited by the Chinese government.

The Chinese Ministry of Trade, MOFCOM, wishes to discuss with the Chief of State Omar Bongo Ondimba the more technical outlines of the various files: mining, oil and building to mention but three. Of course, the sum of all these meetings and the subjects covered are intended to focus the exchanges between the presidents Omar Bongo Ondimba and Hu Jintao, when the two men meet at the banquet on the Saturday following the opening ceremony, in Peking. This banquet is scheduled to follow the group audience the Chinese President Hu Jintao is giving to all the African leaders, a sort of mini forum on Sino-African cooperation. A message will be delivered by the Chinese President, who will receive the reply from the eldest of the African leaders, Omar Bongo Ondimba.

Peking will also be the setting for a cultural francophone meeting, bringing together the French speaking world and the President of the Olympic Committee. A real marathon for Chief of State Omar Bongo Ondimba, who will be called upon to don all his caps and deploy his skills as manager, in Sino Gabonese cooperation, as African elder leader and founding member of the francophone movement.
