President Ali Bongo Ondimba's "Green Gabon" will also be achieved by developing ecotourism:
"The Green Gabon pillar will draw on the valorisation of the “green oil” which constitutes our magnificent ecosystem (22 million hectares of forest, agricultural land, 800 kms of coastline)."
"We should fully exploit the strong ecotourism potentialities that our immense forests confer on us."
Ali Bongo Ondimba, The future with confidence
The landscape in Gabon does in fact present many advantages for tourism. As part of the Congo basin, the planet’s second lung, Gabon has fauna and flora that are among the most diversified in the world. Animal species are extremely varied: elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, hippopotamuses, crocodiles, humpback whales, dolphins and even turtles… Similarly, there are many species of plant present in Gabon. For example, more than 400 different species of tree have been counted.
Gabon therefore intends to encourage people to discover the wealth of its natural resources and at the same time strive to protect the environment and ecosystems.
