Tourism is currently one of our opportunities for major development. The accompanying industrial growth must be based on a sustainable and rational plan in order to meet our expectations and fulfill the goals and objectives that we have clearly identified:
- creating jobs and wealth;
- maximizing the multiplier effect;
- contributing significantly to the GDP;
- having a positive effect on the balance of payments and public revenue;
- furthering development in the provinces;
- improving quality of life for local populations;
- developing mutual understanding between populations;
- giving a boost to local artisans;
- finding the middle ground between short-term socio-economic benefits and preservation of the natural environment and the tangible and intangible national heritage;
- and finally, contributing to fulfilling our own people’s need for recreation and exploration of this country, a legitimate aspiration for our people and one that will strengthen national unity.
Tourism will be a significant phenomenon in this new millennium. In addition, it will be important to focus on forms of tourism that protect the environment, since it is after all “Everyone’s Home”.
The natural resources are thus both for the current inhabitants and for those in future generations.
Gabon will not be left behind in this movement, and will highlight what it has to offer.
