Gabon has more than twenty oil companies including 3 French, one Dutch, one Irish, 3 Canadian, 7 American, 3 South African, 2 British, one Indian, one Japanese and 2 Chinese. The two largest producers, Total and Shell, handle more than 61% of Gabonese production. They are followed by Marathon, Vaalco and Perenco. The crude oil produced is stored in the terminals at Cape Lopez (for Total Gabon) and Gamba (for Shell Gabon). Almost 95% of this crude oil is exported and sold on the international markets at prices set according to quality (Gabonese Mandji or Rabi) in reference to the North Sea Brent. The rest of the crude is transformed by SOGARA (Société Gabonaise de Raffinerie).
The transformed products are commercialised by Shell and other transnational companies for the Gabonese domestic market.
