OPPORTUNITIES

The deployment of transport infrastructures has been a top-priority issue since 1992.

The secondary sector, of which civil engineering stands as the major component, represents 64,1% of the Gabonese GDP (primary sector: 5,7% / tertiary sector: 30,2%).

Approximately 70% of efforts are currently being focused on building up the infrastructures (roads, excavation work and road maintenance) and 30% on construction and subsidiary work.

Road network

To meet the targets relating to the construction and maintenance of the road infrastructures, the network is 80% privatised.
Road network: 9,170 km of roads, 1,052 km of which are asphalted and 8,118 km made out of laterite.
  • 3,368 km are classed as A roads,
  • 1,527 km of provincial roads,
  • 3,008 km of B roads,
  • 1,267 km of unclassified roads,
Two major trunk roads:
  • North-South, 876 km with an extension to the north towards Cameroon and to the south towards the Congo,
  • East-West, 887 km creating a link with the Congo towards the east.
Flavien Nziengui Nzoundou appointed Minister of Public Works, Infrastructures and Construction in the new government of Ali Bongo Ondimba (October 2009).
