Location Estuaire is Gabon's first province and home to the country's capital, Libreville. Estuaire is bordered to the north by Equatorial Guinea, to the south by Moyen Ogooué and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. It has 600,000 inhabitants and covers 20,740 km². The native populations include the Mpongwé, Sekiani, Fang, Benga and Kélé ethnic groups.
Libreville Environment : The coast stretches from the Equatorial Guinea border to Pointe Pongara and is made up of highly jagged rias. It actually comprises the Mouni estuary in the Cocobeach region, Mondah bay and the Komo estuary. The wide range of landscapes along the coast adds to their appeal: rocky outcrops, fine sandy beaches and mangrove swamps. This region is home to several small islands surrounded by fine sandy beaches. This province is also characterised by its natural resources, as showcased by its national parks: Mont de Cristal, Pongara and the Wonga Wongué nature reserve. This part of Gabon is consequently teeming with wildlife and full of breathtaking landscapes. Culture : Estuaire is steeped in culture, by virtue of its rich melting pot. Natives rub shoulders with the country's different ethic groups, as well as a strong contingency from West Africa, Europe, China… all of which creates the ideal breeding ground for a wide blend of cultural elements in the province. For example, the dances, cooking, clothing, and so on, all vary. Transport : To travel in and around Estuaire, the main form of transport used by tourists is the car. In the Estuaire province, you will find urban transport (taxis and public transport) in the towns, peri-urban transport and coaches in the inland areas (bush taxis). Accommodation As Gabon's first port of call and serving as the country's showcase, the Estuaire province plays host to a large number of hotels of all categories. Tourist accommodation therefore ranges from highly renowned hotels to low-priced motels with a level of comfort varying according to the establishment chosen.
