OGGOUE-IVINDO


Location
Ogooué-Ivindo, Gabon's sixth and largest province (46,075 km²), is bordered to the west by Moyen-Ogooué, to the north by Woleu-Ntem, to the east by the Congo, to the south-east by Haut-Ogooué and to the south-west by Ogooué-Lolo. However, it is the most sparsely populated with 48,862 inhabitants, approximately one person for every square kilometre.

Environment :
Crossed by the rivers Ogooué and Ivindo and their countless tributaries, the province features landscapes shrouded by wild beauty and mystery, which are musts on any traveller's itinerary. The region is home to iron ore reserves in Bélinga and Boka-Boka. Its population is mainly comprised of Kota ethnic groups.

Transport :
The province can be reached by plane or car, though the journey is extremely long and arduous. Taxis and bush taxis can be used to travel in and around the province, with canoes available for navigating the river Ivindo.
