Location Crossed by the river Ogooué and its tributary, the Lolo, the region is bordered to the south by the Chaillu massif.
Mission (Koulamoutou) Environment : The Ogooué-Lolo basin is formed from granite, schist and sandstone. The forest covers a large part of the province, with forestry companies attracted to its many species of tree, which obviously include okoumé trees. History : Ogooué-Lolo was for a long time an inward-looking province due to its naturally isolated location (dense forest and few means of communication), but it is gradually opening up to foreign influences, though not without periodic rebellions. Savorgnan de Brazza was the first to reach the Doumé waterfalls whilst travelling to Franceville in June 1877. In 1936, Ogooué-Lolo received regional independence when recognised as a province. It has 44,000 inhabitants, with Koulamoutou as the capital and Lastourville as the sub-prefecture. Transport : You can travel to Koulamoutou by plane, with the flight taking 50 minutes. The airport is 7 km from the town and takes 10 minutes via an asphalted road. There are no telephones at the airport. Alternatively, you can drive there by passing through Ndjolé, Lopé and Lastourville. The journey is very long, requiring stop-offs in Ndjolé or Lopé and if necessary Lastourville. The route from Ndjolé is actually a track, which calls for a 4x4 vehicle. Hébergement La province de l'Ogooué-Lolo dispose plusieurs établissements hôteliers dont les principales sont l'hôtel La Bouènguidi à Koulamoutou, l' hôtel N'goombi à Lastourville. Le cadre y est très agréable. Useful adresses :
