After the president’s investiture on January 19, a new Gabonese administration was formed.
After his reelection last December with 79.18% of the popular vote, President El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba addressed the nation in Libreville on January 19, 2006 in front of many African heads of state.
“I promise to devote all of my efforts to the good of the Gabonese people, striving to ensure our citizens’ well-being, protect them from harm, to abide by and defend the Constitution and Rule of Law, to conscientiously fulfill the duties of my position and to be just to all,” proclaimed the Gabonese president, his right hand on the Constitution and his left hand raised before the national flag.
On the topic of economic growth, the President focused on modernizing the country, particularly road infrastructure, and supporting development in the private sector, describing it as “the foundation of our economic activity and its means of diversification” while calling for “support from our partners abroad”.
In addition, he restated his commitment to the fight against poverty and unemployment and to placing youth in the labor market.
As this ceremony marked the end of the last administrations’ duties, on Friday, January 20 new Prime Minister Jean Eyeghé Ndong was appointed. He was formerly Deputy Minister for the Minister of State, Minister of Economy, Finance, Budget and Privatization.
On Saturday, Ndong announced the formation of his new administration, with a strong female presence: twelve women in office, up from five in the last administration.
